The Worthington Presbyterian Church has been the long-standing event space for our Phi Upsilon Omicron annual holiday brunch and auction. A delicious buffet meal was served by the church women and Norma Pitts, Phi U member, provided a delicious cranberry apple cake at each place setting. Our stellar auctioneers, Alice Miskell and Norma Pitts got everyone into the spirit of the day with the mantra, “bid high, bid often”!!
Over fifty members, alumni, and guests mingled and chatted as they purchased items from the Buy it Now table. Lovely SILENT auction items were featured including a basket of Italian food and wine, a collector Barbie doll, an OSU bag of swag, a hair stylist coupon, an original set of Woodstock wind chimes, just to name a few. The LIVE auction was where the real fun took place as guests and members alike bid on delicious homemade pies, homemade breads, cheeseballs, pickles, a raspberry chocolate torte and many other tasty goodies. All of the activities raised over $3,200 for our Phi Upsilon Omicron Professional projects.
For those interested, the breakdown of dollars gathered was: Buy it Now: $564.50; Silent auction: $693; Live auction: $1662; and additional donations of $285.50. Some individuals who were unable to attend sent donations totaling $418 to support the fundraiser and professional projects, as well as many registered members added additional dollars to support our students.
Several OSU collegiate Phi U members and professors were also present, as well as Erik Porfeli, Chair of Human Sciences, College of Education and Human Ecology. Two beautiful vintage jackets designed by Carolyn Ready, a fashion graduate student, were auctioned and purchased by members, Susan Shockey and Rita Lane. The money raised from Carolyn’s donations will go back to the student Phi U treasury for their activities.
Everyone was in high spirits at the closing, as all shouted a hearty GO Bucks, BEAT Penn State. And the men of Scarlet and Gray did just that in an exciting afternoon game played in Happy Valley.
