Friday, August 21 st was the official Ribbon Cutting event to open the newly renovated

home to Home Economics/Human Ecology/Human Sciences students, guests, faculty,

staff and alumni!

It was a glorious afternoon with the ribbon cutting ceremony occurring at 4:30pm after

remarks by Interim Dean Erik Porfeli and the renovation team. Approximately 100

gathered to “RING THE BELL” as the ribbon was cut on the steps overlooking Mirror

Lake.

The renovation team kept many of the old doors and window sashes in the original 1916

building in addition to the doors going into Campbell 200. The inside of Campbell 200

received a major upgrade with new cushioned seating in a scarlet/grey fabric, and the

stage has been updated with a huge screen and all of the technical equipment needed

for lecturing.

The back of the building houses the new Historic Costume and Textiles Collection

gallery and storage- small but a perfect size to allow students and guests to view over

30 different fashion pieces. The Autumn Exhibition titled “Twentieth-Century Design in

Scarlet and Grey” is breathtaking. It provides a brief timeline of fashion through the

previous century with a celebratory nod to OSU’s official colors. Garments from 1902

through the mid-90’s are showcased. Sarah Berenz is now serving as the curator for the

collection.

The Hospitality kitchen is state-of-the-art, and the new kitchen/program leader will be

Chef Tameka Johnson. The kitchens with floor to ceiling windows look out onto the

west lawn, and the ambiance of the space is bound to encourage more students to

choose this avenue of study. It is a high-tech working kitchen with a demonstration area

and monitors throughout for teaching and learning.

The Human Nutrition laboratories on the 3rd floor are state-of-the-art, as well.

Collaboration by the students will bring about incredible results in the years ahead.

Sara McMaken, lead project Manager, kept the renovation moving to the finish line.

She is continuing to work with us to have a permanent display case for our Legacy pins

and candle sticks in Campbell 364, along with our Legacy Quilt.
