Letter from the Gamma Alumni President, Connie S. Cahill
The 2024-2025 Program year went by very quickly. I hope that you have visited our website at www.phiuosu.org for all the various events throughout the year.
We want you to be engaged and participating in all of our activities! We hold great memories of our times together on campus, no matter what year we graduated. Campbell Hall’s renovations are coming along, and we look forward to celebrating next year with a special party for all Phi Upsilon Omicron alumni.
This past year, the Alumni chapter worked closely with the collegiate chapter on their local service project, The Legacy Academy. Grade school children in the 6th-high school were invited on campus to learn about possible career paths and expectations for attending a university. The alumni chapter provided lightly used clothing for the young men and women through donations at the Founders Day program.

So, I am very pleased to announce that the National Professional Program Committee of Phi Upsilon Omicron has selected The Ohio State University GAMMA CHAPTER as the 2025 First Place recipient of the National Professional Project award for: “Stitching Service into Scholarship: Interlacing FCS, Leadership and Community.” What an honor to our collegiate chapter! They will receive a certificate, plaque and an award check in the amount of $300 to continue their work with The Legacy Academy.
The Alumni Executive Board and Committee chairs met several times throughout the year, via Zoom and in person. A successful Holiday Brunch and Auction, an exciting Founders Day program and a Spring Potluck with student installations into our Gamma Alumni chapter were the specific program highlights.
We lost several alumni members this year including Marty Brinkman, Dorothy Teater, Jackie LaMuth , Lois Hungate, Ruth Tootle, and Anne Foltz. Condolences were sent to their family members.
With fall approaching, the OSU students will be returning to campus, and our alumni chapter will be holding a “Lunch and Learn” event in early October for those interested in applying for Phi Upsilon Omicron scholarships. The program was highly successful with over five students receiving scholarships for the upcoming academic year. Dr. V. Ann Paulins, student advisor and National President-Elect have provided exceptional guidance to the students.
Congratulations to four of our Gamma Chapter Phi U members being awarded National Phi U Scholarships!!
Two undergraduate students were awarded scholarships:
Anna Czarnecki received the Golden Anniversary Scholarship.
Jack Badia received the Bates Family Legacy Scholarship.
And two doctoral students were awarded Fellowships:
Vishakha Kumari and Maria Abdul-Masih each received the Founder’s Fellowship.
In other exciting news, Kathryn Wood has agreed to fill out the remaining President-Elect position for the coming year. Catherine Clark resigned due to spousal caretaking responsibilities.
We have a great Phi U community and an exciting year ahead! Please renew your membership today.
Thank you for realizing how important your membership is to the greater good of our honor society and community.

Connie Cahill
Phi U Gamma Alumni President
